Difference Between Running And Clumping Bamboo

There are two kind of bamboo, Running Bamboo and Clumping Bamboo. What’s the difference? Clumping bamboos are bamboos that grow tall beautifully and don’t need lots of growing space because it grows with rhizomes pattern that is to simply expand the root mass gradually, similar to ornamental grasses. While on the other hand Running bamboos are plants that badly need attention to grow because of its aggressive nature. They spread mainly through their roots and/or rhizomes, which can spread widely underground and send up new culms to break through the surface. Running bamboo species are highly variable in their tendency to spread; this is related to both the species and the soil and climate conditions. Some can send out runners of several meters a year, while others can stay in the same general area for long period of time.

When choosing what could be the right bamboo for your back or front yard, it is better to consider your land area. It is recommended to have clumping bamboos when you don’t have large space to grow for something like a running bamboo. Here are some great clumping bamboos to choose from:

Tropical Timber Bamboo

Giant Timber Bamboo

Black Bamboo

Buddha Belly Bamboo

Alphonse Karr Bamboo

These bamboos will surely satisfy your bamboo need in replacement for traditional metal of wood fence, but some people just want to be more relaxed while sitting and feeling the cool breeze from a bamboo plant.
